I’m an addict.
As I was sitting in the break room at work, I dug into my pocket to find my iPhone, habitually opening up my Twitter app. I quietly shouted “No!” and immediately closed the app.
Guilt ensued. I felt bad and ashamed almost; it was sad that my first instinct when pulling out my phone was to open up Twitter.
As if my Twitter fumble wasn’t enough, no more than two minutes later did I subconsciously open up my Facebook app.
These honest mistakes were a true sign of my social media addiction, making me realize that going cold turkey on social media is exactly what I need to do.
I need to be weened off of social media. Because I’m at the point of subconsciously opening up my social media apps, it’s time for me to set my phone down completely, to peek out from behind the mesmerizing screen of my iPhone and actually converse with people.
Maybe this Friday (the last day of my Week Without Tech) I will go without my phone completely…Or at least texting.
Later that night, I accidentally opened my Buzzfeed app, only to curse quietly again and shut off the app.
