On Thursday, May 2, the Free State girls Varsity Soccer team faced off against Lawrence High School at home. The Firebirds won the annual city showdown 4-0, leaving the Lions unable to score.
Coming into the game, the Firebirds held a season record of (2-10), holding one win over the Lions, who held a season record of (1-11).
“Believing that we were going to win and actually doing it really raised everyone’s spirits,” sophomore Riley Prier said.
Junior Taylor Woods scored three goals for Free State in the first quarter, leading the Firebirds 3-0 into halftime.
“It felt really good to win and shut them out,” Woods said.
Senior Captain Kate Foust scored the first and final goal of the second quarter to secure the city showdown win for the Firebirds.
“We really work together as a team,” Foust said.
