Being a popular spot for students, families and older folks equally, Ladybird Diner can be a chaotic location on the weekends. But amidst the chaos upstairs, downstairs in the cozy confines of stone and mortar, pie makers prepare their next batch of dough in the pie bakery according to Heriford. However, the pie did not always have a dedicated location. Heriford said that for the first year of business, pie rolled, filled and baked in the same small room as the rest of the food.

“You would just be rolling out pie dough while somebody next to you is pounding out chicken fried steak,” Heriford said.
