A shooting at the end of the Chiefs victory parade killed at least one person and injured upwards of 22 people as of Feb. 14. First responders were sent in as fans evacuated from Union Station and the surrounding parade route.
What initially began as a celebration of the Chief’s third Super Bowl win in five years ended in tragedy after gunshots were heard as the victory rally came to a close. An estimated over one million fans and 800 officers attended the parade.
Since the gunshots were heard at around 2 p.m., the Kansas City Police Department has detained three people. Multiple fans were seen being carried off in stretchers to where they are receiving treatment at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Truman Medical Center and St. Luke’s Hospital. Over five of the victims are currently in critical condition and Children’s Mercy Hospital has reported to be treating 11 children.
Local law enforcement cleared out the area and will continue to investigate the circumstances and details surrounding the shooting. They do not believe the motive was terrorism.
