On Tuesday Jan. 17, it was announced that there would be school the following day, however the school buses would not be in use. The buses were experiencing mechanical issues with fuel gelling that prohibited them starting or completing their routes.
Without buses, many families and students were left without a ride to school. Since buses are accessible to students who live two and a half miles away from school or more, walking in under freezing temperatures isn’t an option. If there wasn’t a way for these students to get a ride to school, the district would excuse their absences.
With the rise in temperature, the buses are supposed to be back in operation in the afternoon, but if they are not the district will make an announcement. The decisions regarding harsh weather conditions will be made with the safety of students in mind as well as keeping students in school when possible.
