The mayor of Lawrence, Robert Chestnut, visited the senior US Government classes last Tuesday morning. During his visit, he informed the student body about local government and the way it works in the public and behind the scenes.
Chestnut encouraged students to get involved in local government by joining volunteer commissions.
“No matter what your age, we can use you on a city commission,” Chestnut said.
Commissions exist in departments such as public works, parks and recreation, planning and development services, etc. For more information on how you can apply to be on one of this commissions, and be a part of the town government visit http://www.ci.lawrence.ks.us/subscriptions.
