My day was a blast, or should I say, Abishai’s day was a blast. I spent a day following around the charismatic redhead known as Abishai Guenther, it became clear that she was not the average person. From the smallest details to large aspects of her personality, Guenther has an inviting uniqueness to her that makes it near impossible not to think she’s cool.
With a quick stop to chat with some friends, we were off to first hour orchestra. Guenther and everyone began to take their seats and set up their instruments and stands while I awkwardly took a seat with a perfect view of the back of most everyone’s head. While my seating choice was not amazing, I did enjoy listening to the holiday-themed song being played around me. Around the middle of class, Guenther pulled out the coolest little thing. It was a pop-tart carrying case. It was a small brown plastic box shaped like a pop-tart. This carrying case was brought out every now and then through out the day and made me incredibly jealous every time.
I was unable to go to Guenther’s second and sixth hour for technical reasons so after a few texts giving me directions up some stairs and around a few corners, dipping and dodging through the packed halls, I met up with her at her third hour geometry class. All the people who missed a test were immediately kicked out to the hall at the beginning of class. Guenther, myself, and a few other people sat in the hall for a while talking and laughing until called back in. Guenther was hilarious through out the day, when she wasn’t trying to bruise my arm. In class, teacher Micheal Colvin began teaching about systems and a new way to solve them. After the lesson, the class was given a worksheet which everyone around me seemed to finish pretty quickly.
Alice Karakas’ fourth hour English class was reading Huckleberry Finn. The hour was mainly discussion and reading. We whispered and worked and passed notes until 11:55am when the bell rang for second lunch. After we got back, Guenther drew me a doodle and went back to reading.
Fifth hour: US history with Phillip Mitchell. I’d like to tell you how cool Mitchell is, but somebody else already wrote that story. Go check it out after you’re done here. Fifth hour was all about the roaring 20’s and Guenther was on top of it. History was her favorite class. It definitely showed.
Throughout the day, it was impossible not to notice Guenther seemed to be liked by everyone and seemed to like just about everyone herself.
After school, we went to Anime club, which was, um, interesting… to say the least. I’m still not totally sure what we watched. It was something about World War I, and every country was portrayed by a person. All I could understand was that Canada was a ghost, Italy kept surrendering, and I think Russia was indestructible. It was weird, let’s put it that way. Everyone there was very lively, except for Guenther who, while funny and the life of conversations throughout the day, actually seemed kind of quiet compared to what I expected. While I personally couldn’t get into the story, other people there definitely could. There were laughs, there were tears; mostly laughs though. Don’t ask me why they were laughing, though. I couldn’t understand a word of what was going on in the show.
After about an hour, we both got our things together and went out to the parking lot. Guenther got into her red Ford Edge Ranger parked a few spaces away from where I parked; we backed out, drove off, and our day was over.
Spending the day in her shadow, Guenther came off as one of the nicest, exciting individuals in the school. Her best quality might be her modesty. While most people try to be the center of attention and push their opinion into conversations every second, Guenther has that uncommon quality that makes her stand out above others. She can put the life into a conversation without saying hardly anything at all. Guenther seemed to always know exactly what to say when talking to people. From what I saw and heard throughout the day, Guenther had friends galore and enemies nonexistent. If someone was around her throughout the day, they were probably talking and laughing with her at some point.
