Tom and Gary’s Decentralized Dance Party may be coming to Lawrence this December. The Decentralized Dance Party consists of a DJ with an FM transmitter and people carrying boomboxes all tuned into the DJ’s broadcast. The party is outdoors, mobile and free to all members of the community.
“This Portable Dance Party roams the night, generating complete awesomeness, street by street and block by block, onto buses and subways, into public fountains and beyond,” according to Tom and Gary’s website.
The Facebook page for the outdoor rave discourages drinking and instructs anyone who decides to use controlled substances to do so discreetly so as not to ruin the clean fun for everyone else.
The party tour that is coming to Lawrence is called the Strictly Business Tour and everyone is supposed to wear business attire. The tour first went to Canada in August and October and is now coming to the United States through December.
Tom and Gary choose which cities they bring the party to by the amount of support and interest they receive from the community through Facebook, Twitter and their mailing list. They are currently considering 36 cities, including Lawrence, for their next party. However they will only choose those who have 1000 people signed up on the Facebook page by November 1st which Lawrence certainly did.
Although not a lot of people at Free State know about the Decentralized Dance Party yet, when explained to them most people think it would be a blast.
After hearing about the FM transmitter and mobile party senior Janae Cooper lit up.
