Dem. Shannon Reid is re-elected as the District Two Douglas County Commissioner. Running against Independent Brad Chun, Reid wins by a total of 4899 votes and 68.74% overall.
Commissioner Reid has lived in Lawrence her entire life. She attended Kansas University, Lawrence High School, Billy Mills Middle School, and New York and Broken Arrow Elementary Schools.
For Douglas County District Three Commissioner, Dem. Karen Wiley is re-elected over Rep. Pam McDermott. Wiley won by 57.28% with a total of 7008 votes.
Commissioner Wiley graduated from Kansas University with a BA in Environmental Studies and a PhD in Geography. After moving to Lawrence in 1993, she has volunteered around the community by leading organizations such as the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Committee and as a firefighter for nearly 10 years. Wiley was awarded as a graduate of Leadership Lawrence in 2020.
As for the District Four Douglas County commissioner position, Dem. Gene Dorsey won against Rep. Timothy Bruce and Libertarian Steve Jacob by 57.77% with a total of 5849 votes.
Dorsey, 78 years old, attended Kansas University and graduated from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy in 2024.
Dem. Erica Anderson wins as the District Five Douglas County Commissioner against Rep. Rich Lorenzo and Libertarian Kirsten Kuhn. Commissioner Anderson won a total of 5405 votes and 51.78% overall.
According to Lawrence Journal-World, Anderson says she wants more community involvement and leadership as she takes the seat for her district. She is thrilled to see what comes ahead as a new commissioner.
“It’s been a fantastic experience going door to door and meeting individuals,” Anderson said. “The experience has “really left lasting impressions on me and really solidified my desire to serve our district, but also the county as a whole.”
