Although students appreciated a few days off due to the winter storms, the puzzling question of how USD497 will make up the snow days remained.
The board meeting for this important question will be held on March 11. The school board will decide how to handle the missed school, with ideas ranging from added on days to a few extra minutes per class for the remainder of the year. The only day needing to be made up is the Tuesday missed; the Thursday was forgiven and Friday used up our April day off.
The school faculty, specifically the teachers, were especially worried about the missed classes. The multiple days off, as well as the enrollment meetings and recent state testing, has greatly cut out teachers’ time with their students.
The snow days were a curve ball for the district to deal with, and Lawrence will not know the decisions until late March 11.
